Human Population Density and the Quality of Life, February 19-20, 1970 [sound recording]

The accession consists of two seven inch reel to reel audio tape recordings of a symposium entitled, "Human Population Density and the Quality of Life, " which was sponsored by the graduate students of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. The symposium was held at Sherwood Auditorium, La Jolla, California on February 19, 1970 and at Sumner Auditorium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography on February 20, 1970. The purpose of the symposium was to generate discussion on the effects of population on the environment, including issues of air, water and noise pollution and waste disposal. Speakers include David R. Brower, David M. Gates, KSDO Radio Manager Sherwood R. Gordon speaking on "The Role of Mass Communications and Marketing," John D. Isaacs speaking on "Is it Valid to Consider the Capacity of the Environment Limited in View of the Potentials of Technology?," David Kaplan, Daniel B. Luten, Barry Skolnick speaking on "The Role of the Coming Generation," San Diego County Supervisor Jack Walsh speaking on "The Role of the Establishment," and V.J. Yannacone. William A. Nierenberg gave the opening address. Nick Fotheringham served as Chairman of the Student Symposium Committee and presided over the symposium. SIO Director William A. Nierenberg gave the opening address.
